Staying At Paris’s Famous 5-Star Luxury (Pavillon de la Reine)

In this video we spend one night at Pavillon de la Reine, the only five-star luxury boutique hotel on Place des Vosges in the Marais. This Pavillon de la Reine review is for anyone wondering whether it is the right place to treat yourself in Paris. We paid for our stay, and at the end we share exactly what it cost.

The suite and the spa

  • A separate living room with a view toward Place des Vosges, a coffee maker, a kettle, champagne and macarons waiting for us.
  • A true king-size bed that felt bigger than an American king, with blackout curtains.
  • A marble bathroom with a tub, a separate shower and a US-style shaver plug. We did not find outlets by the bed, so bring an adapter and charge your phone in the living room.
  • The spa: a jacuzzi, steam room, gym and treatment rooms (book massages ahead). We had it almost to ourselves.

Food and the neighborhood

The hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and we were there on a Sunday, so we tried room service: a fish tartare, a steak with mashed potatoes and a sea bream on risotto. Good for room service, though not the starred restaurant. Breakfast in the room was decent, but the downstairs buffet is the one people rave about. In the evening we strolled the art galleries under the arcades of Place des Vosges, one of our favorite walks in the Marais.

Our ratings and what we paid

Location 10/10, room 9/10 (our street-facing windows let in some noise; most rooms face the quieter courtyards), amenities 10/10, service 10/10 and value 9/10. When we filmed, our suite was 1,100 euros for the night, standard rooms were roughly 500 to 600 euros depending on the season, and dinner from room service came to 212 euros. Expensive, but in our view not overpriced.
