Why love locks were removed in Paris
Planning to leave a padlock on a Paris bridge? Skip it. In this short video we explain why the love locks in Paris were removed from Pont des Arts, and what we ask visitors to do instead. It is for anyone heading to the bridges of Paris hoping to recreate that famous photo.
What happened to the locks
The love locks on Pont des Arts are gone. They were removed in 2015 after a whole panel fell off the bridge, because the weight of the padlocks was simply too much. The wire railings were then replaced with plexiglass panels, so there is nowhere left to attach a lock.
What we ask you to do
- Do not attach locks to lampposts or other railings. People still sneak them on, and we ask you not to be one of them.
- Take the photo on the bridge and enjoy the view.
- Leave the lock at home.
