Whether you’re just discovering that special someone or, like us, you have a long established bond, Paris offers something to melt every heart. So come along as we share some of our favorite ways to savor the romantic side of Paris.
romantic places in paris: Explore Iconic Landmarks
As one of the most romantic cities, there are hundreds of romantic things to do in Paris & places. Nothing says Paris like the Eiffel Tower. It’s one of the most iconic symbols of love, making it a great destination for your romantic trip to Paris. Take the elevators to the upper floors and enjoy the sweeping, panoramic views of the city. Or enjoy a cozy picnic in the sprawling grounds at the base.
For a special celebration, book a table at one of the tower’s two restaurants (but you’ll want to snag a reservation well in advance – these are popular tables and they book up fast!).
To get a romantic photo with the Eiffel Tower, go to the Trocadero at sunrise or sunset. You’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the tower at any time of day, but early in the morning it will feel like it’s yours alone. Perfect for that must-get photo.
Another showstopper is the Arc de Triomphe, built to commemorate the sacrifices of soldiers in the French Revolution and in the Napoleonic wars. It was commissioned in 1806, but it wasn’t finished until much later, between 1833-36. It’s open until 11 at night – last access is 45 minutes before closing – so why not visit at sunset or in the evening to see the city begin to twinkle. Do check the monument website for any other events or last minute updates (like is the elevator working!) and to pre-purchase tickets.
The top of the butte Montmartre, on the steps in front of the Sacré-Coeur church, is a classic spot where lovers linger. Blessed with beautiful views of the city, it’s a special spot to share with your special someone. And bonus, there is a funicular you can take up (or down) using a metro ticket. A unique, memorable experience to share.
Romantic things to do in Paris: Stroll through a Neighborhood
Speaking of Montmartre, the romance doesn’t end at the steps. The whole district has enormous charm. Known for its artistic heritage, beckons lovers to wander through its cobblestone streets.
Explore the quaint cafes and art studios that dot the neighborhood, and maybe get a portrait done at the Place du Tertre, where artists set up stalls. They can do caricatures or more flattering drawings, and it’s sure to be a treasured memento of your visit.
On the left bank of the Seine, visit the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, known for its intellectual and artistic heritage, where you can browse antique bookshops and then find a café to sip coffee. The Luxembourg Gardens, with its manicured lawns and regal fountains, offer a serene retreat for couples seeking a moment of tranquility amidst the bustling city.

Sweet Spots to Share with your Sweetheart
Part of what makes Paris such a beautiful city is the little parks, squares and stretches of riverbank that give you some space to breathe and dream. Here are a few we love.
The stately Place des Vosges in Le Marais is a beautiful park surrounded by gorgeous townhouses that date back to the 17th century. Royal courtiers, clerics and courtesans lived here, as did novelist Victor Hugo. Art galleries line the park, so it’s fun to see what’s showing. There are some restaurants as well, or if the weather is good, pack a picnic and settle in for a leisurely time in this elegant setting. If you’re looking for a special place to pop the question, this one should be on your list.
For a totally different, but equally wonderful vibe, you’ll want to take your sweetie to the Square du Vert Galant. This little park is at the tip of the Île de la Cité, an island in the Seine River that also houses the Notre Dame cathedral. A graceful willow tree leans its branches over the river. There are lots of benches and people sitting just on the banks, watching the boats go by. A perfect place to steal a kiss.
Park Monceau, in the 8th Arrondissement near the Champs-Élysées, is a beautiful spot filled with charming little vignettes. Statues, remnants of walls, ponds – it all adds up to a serene place to wander and maybe sit on a bench for a little tête-à-tête with your special person.
If you want to dance by the Seine, head to the Esplanade du Quai Saint-Bernard on a summer evening. It’s in the Latin Quarter on the Left Bank of the Seine. Everyone from beginners on up is welcome here, so you can sweep your sweetheart off their feet – even if you have two left feet!
Romantic Dining Experiences in Paris
Paris is synonymous with exquisite cuisine, and the city offers a plethora of romantic dining experiences that cater to every palate. Indulge in a candlelit dinner at a cozy bistro, where the clinking of wine glasses creates an intimate ambiance. Sample classic French dishes such as coq au vin and escargot. You might want to start off with a coupe de champagne, a glass of champagne that serves as an aperitif. Here’s our video on 5 bistros we love – we think you’ll be pleased too!
If you’re celebrating a special anniversary, or are planning a proposal that no one could refuse, consider booking a table at one of Paris’s Michelin-starred restaurants, where world-class chefs craft culinary masterpieces that delight the senses. This is food as art, and the service is a finely choreographed dance designed to spoil you from your first sip to your last bite. These restaurants are a splurge, but for a special occasion, it might just do the trick.
Another way to enjoy a romantic meal is on a dinner cruise along the Seine River, where you can savor gourmet cuisine while gliding past illuminated landmarks such as the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and many others. We enjoyed our experience on Le Calife, docked across from the Louvre. (Watch our video of the experience to see what it’s like.)
Romantic Activities for Couples in Paris
Paris offers a wealth of romantic activities that cater to every couple’s interests and preferences.
Active couples might enjoy seeing Paris by bike. Bikes are a great way to get around, and the city now has dedicated bicycle lanes, so you won’t be riding in traffic. There are hundreds of Velib bike rental stations around the city, but a guided bicycle tour can be a great option to see the sites and get the back story with a local.
Why not treat the chef in your life to a special Parisian cooking class? Whether its classic French dishes, croissant making, or how to pair wine and cheese, you’ll find a class for almost any interest.
For a truly special experience, consider taking a night tour of Paris. The illuminated buildings will help you see the city in a whole new way – and give you special appreciation for why Paris is called the City of Light!
Commemorate your romantic trip to Paris with a photoshoot. Working with a professional is a great way to make sure you get those iconic shots that you’ll remember always. You can decide the location and all the particulars with the photographer you hire. Here are some we’ve worked with and can recommend for a romantic photoshoot in Paris.
Tips for Planning a Romantic Trip to Paris
Planning a romantic trip to Paris requires some unromantic advanced planning. Paris is always popular, so we recommend booking your accommodation at least three months ahead of time, if not more. Start by choosing the right time of year to visit, taking into account the weather and seasonal events that may enhance your romantic getaway. Consider booking a romantic package at a luxury hotel, which may include special amenities such as champagne, flowers, and chocolates.
Similarly, if you want to dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant or even just a popular neighborhood place, chances are you’ll need a reservation. So get those booked early as well. The same is true with classes, tours and those special experiences you want to have. Book early so you won’t be disappointed.
That said, we recommend leaving plenty of unscheduled time in your itinerary. You may be tired from traveling, or just want the freedom to explore and see what you discover à deux. Those unscheduled moments just may turn out to be the most memorable.
To help you find the best options, we offer several Paris guides that cover things like the neighborhoods, hotels, restaurants and activities. Check them out to see if they’re a fit for you.
Paris, with its astonishing beauty and romantic ambiance, offers a perfect setting for couples to create their own love story in the heart of France. We hope your trip here deepens your bond for years to come.
