Is France safe to visit right now?

Is France safe to visit right now? We get this question a lot, especially during a hot, dry summer like this one, when France went through its fourth heat wave. In this short video we give you our honest answer, so you can decide whether to keep your travel plans as they are.

What is happening this summer

It has been a hot and dry summer in France. But heat waves pass. They usually last four to five days, and then it cools back down. A heat wave is uncomfortable, but it is not a reason to cancel a trip.

Our quick take

  • Paris and most of France are completely safe and open for visitors.
  • The one exception is the Gironde region near Bordeaux, which was hit hard by wildfires. Local authorities have asked people to stay away, so please respect that and avoid that specific area.
  • Everywhere else, do not change your plans.
