What the new EES system means for your Paris trip 2026!
Europe just changed its border control, and in this short video we explain what the new EES system for Paris travel means for your 2026 trip. If you are flying in from the US, here is a quick checklist so you arrive prepared and avoid surprises at passport control.
What EES changes
EES is Europe’s new Entry-Exit System for border control. For most travelers, the biggest practical difference is time: plan for the possibility of longer waits when you arrive.
Your checklist
- Budget extra time at customs.
- You need a biometric symbol on your passport.
- Americans have had biometric passports since 2007, so you are likely fine.
- Your passport cannot expire within 6 months of your arrival date.
Before you fly
Check the cover of your passport for the biometric symbol and double-check the expiry date well before your trip. If your passport is close to expiring, renew it early so the new rules don’t catch you out.
Once you are through the border, a Paris airport transfer means you have a ride waiting, even if the line took longer than expected. And our Paris Guide Bundle has all our best recommendations for your stay.
